Dr. Bernhard Scholz

Dr. Bernhard Scholz studied Economics and Philosophy at the University of Munich.

He has been working as a consultant with focus in the banking sector before joining “Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechselbank” in 1991. From 1995 to 2002 Dr. Scholz was engaged for HypoBank and later HVB in the area of Real Estate Finance in various functions, latest as Head of the German North/East area based in Berlin. With the founding of “Hypo Real Estate AG” in 2002, he took over responsibility for workout of the combined portfolios in the newly founded bank.

In 2004 he joined the Board of “Münchener Hypothekenbank e.G.”. Initially he was responsible for credit, later on for origination and in particular for the expansion of international activities as well as for the inhouse IT department.

In 2010, Dr. Scholz was appointed to the Board of “Hypo Real Estate AG”, which had been nationalized after the financial crisis and of “pbb Deutsche Pfandbriefbank AG”. He was responsible for origination in Real Estate Finance and Public Investment Finance. After the successful IPO of pbb in 2015 Dr. Scholz left the bank in spring 2017.

Dr. Scholz was member of the Executive Board of the German Pfandbrief Banks Association in 2010-2016 where he headed the International Financing Committee and represented the German mortgage banks in the Executive Committee of the European Mortgage Association. He was member of the board of the Bavarian Banking Association from 2014-2016 and is member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).
